A stable support for you tablet
Problem:
Our client came to us asking help for the development of a robust tablet support. There are several products that perform this function in the market but they are not certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and are not able to absorb aircraft vibrations. In a few words, the screen vibrates and the use of the device becomes impossible.
Critical points:
- The rigidity of the EASA safety regulations
- Difficulties finding similar fixing areas in different aircraft
- Solid a stable configuration needed
- Initial reduced production
Proposal:
We created a robust tablet support fully-made machined aluminum support. Though the cost is not that low, this road allowed us to have a solid configuration, with a material that recalls the aeronautical world and without the need of molds. Five different brackets were created to give great anchorage flexibility to the product, while movements were designed to offer great positioning freedom without compromising the safety that usual ball joint systems present when exposed to continuous vibration.
After the design, the first prototype was built in a short time for testing and getting EASA certification.
The success of Tablet Support in helicopters has been a stimulus for our client to propose it to other areas of extreme use such as boats, trucks, off-road vehicles and forklifts.
